FEMXLE SPACES is an interdisciplinary and intergenerational performance project by Dortmund based company 4.D in cooperation with ACCA. Inspired by the lived experiences of twelve female identifying interviewees from the twin cities of Dortmund and Leeds, the project celebrates the power, voices and efficacy of womxn who have taken their place and found their space. Through the stories the womxn shared during our conversations with them, we encounter stories of feminist solidarity, present and past movements for efficacy and self-determination in institutions, public spaces as well as within family structures.

Using theatre, dance and film, the piece makes social challenges and discourses visible in public spaces and through performance. The show was performed in Leeds in August 2023 as part of Leeds 2023 City of Culture and with the support of Slung Low, and in Dortmund in October 2023.

Femxle Spaces was supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Dortmund, the Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media within the program NEUSTART KULTUR.
